Another #PlasticFreeJuly

It is the first day of August, which means that Plastic-Free July has come to a close. I should mention that I never include medical waste when discussing low-waste, less plastic, etc. There are some cases where plastic is necessary because alternatives would be unsanitary, unhygienic, etc. A bit on medical waste is for another time. Today we’re going over Plastic-Free July up to now! There are a few things we’re waiting on, and hopefully there won’t be plastic in the packaging, or if there is, it’s minimal.

I have to say that, of the recent seasons, this box is probably my least favorite. Typically, I like at least 90% of what the box contains. That’s not the case this time. Even though the box is valued at $463.95, of the 10 products that were in this summer edition, I liked about half. I chose the mandala towel, resistance bands, nesting bowls, and the mystery item (it ended up being a face cleansing oil). I also added on the face masks.

The Month After

*This post contains affiliate links.*

It has been about a month since my last update. I don’t mean for things to be so sporadic, but admittedly, I don’t write multiple posts that can be uploaded on the date/time of my choosing. Perhaps I should… Anyway, let us recap June. I continued working on my dissertation (when is that not happening?), saw a few specialists, worked on getting our channel up and running, spent some time at SeaWorld, and am planning out the rest of summer. There is quite a bit more, but that’s the gist of it.

Guess Who’s Going to BlizzCon!

We were lucky enough to get our BlizzCon tickets during their second round of sales. I’ll have some links below where you might be able to get them, and you won’t pay more than the original listed price + fees. This year, to commemorate 25 years of the Warcraft universe, Blizzard let ticket holders choose between two statues: Orc Grunt (Horde) or Human Footman (Alliance). Ticket prices increased, and this year there were more options to choose from. We bought the regular pass ($229 + fees per ticket) and have reserved the room. In theory we could commute, but after our experience last year, it’s better for us to stay close to the convention center. Since Blizzard teamed up with AXS, you have to have the app when registering. There were some other issues in this change, like no longer being able to have your toon’s name on the badge, but it is what it is.

Living with an Invisible Illness

Hello, all! I am back, for now anyway, and here is what has been going on since my last post. I’ve been working on my dissertation (here’s hoping I finish before the end time), was in the ER, have had good & bad days, worked on a new line for the shop my fiancé and I have… Needless to say, a lot has been going on, and I haven’t paid as much attention to this blog as I should be. I’m looking to change that with some new time-management methods.

Low-Waste Regrets

There are several things I’ve acquired since switching to a low-waste lifestyle. Straws, jars, bags; you name it. There are things I love, and then there are things I would not repurchase. I hate calling them “regrets” because, truth be told, they aren’t. They are items I genuinely thought I would love and use, but they haven’t lived up to my expectations. Does this mean my opinions should deter you from giving them a whirl? Nope. Everyone has different tastes, so you may love what I do not.

Things I Wish I Knew Before Going Low-Waste & Tips

There are tons of videos and posts about going zero- or low-waste. From swaps to tips, a plethora of information is out there. That being said, there are few that focus on what people wish they knew before changing their lifestyle. First off, you need to remember that there is no set rulebook. I think we are so used to having specific constraints for everything that we often forget how to subjective lifestyles are. What works for one may not work for another, and that’s okay. Second: It is okay to make small changes; you don’t have to dive head-first into change– though that does work for some. Life is too short to focus on the opinions of others anyway. Here are some things I wish I knew before going low- impact:

2019 Food + Wine Festival at DCA

Round 1: A sampling of the provisions.

Now, through April 23rd, head over to Disney California Adventure to celebrate the food and drink options inspired by the flavors of California! We headed there today to sample some of their goodies. The Sip and Savor Pass($54/regular, $49/AP price) provides 8 coupons that can be redeemed at the Marketplace (15 themed kiosks) and various food/beverage carts. Two of the kiosks are off the beaten path. One by the restrooms/Ariel’s Undersea Adventure by Grizzly River Run, and the other is in Hollywood Land near Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue!. Depending on what you want to try, the pass can be the most economical option, as most items are $6 and up. The coupons can be redeemed for most things, excluding alcoholic drinks. Paradise Garden Grill is also offering smaller versions of four their specialty items, which are also coupon friendly. While you are there, be sure to pick up a food guide. Each guide provides a checklist-style menu so you can keep track of everything you sample. There are also sections for notes, just in case you want to buy a second helping, or want notes from one of the culinary seminars.
