So, the end of a decade is nearly here. It’s about 5am, and I should be sleeping, but I can’t. Anyway, I really tried to limit my spending on physical items, but I did get a few things that I love. One of them is a dry bag. I love that it keeps everything dry, and it’s a bit transparent. There haven’t been issues with the strap so far (knock on wood), but a couple of people complained that the straps broke off of the bag over time. Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen with the bags I bought. It came in a two pack with two different sizes.

isn’t the greatest?
After hours of removing the wallpaper, it’s finally gone! Well, all but the border, that is. Then I need to sand, patch, and prime the walls so I can get started on the paint. I’m not sure how the set-up will be. Since the beginning, I have had this idea in my head about the organization, which I think will have to change. There will definitely be an art wall and a storage wall, but now I’m not sure which will go where. I still need to clean out the garage and the shed. Since the weather has been cooler, it won’t be such a chore… At least, I hope not. This is going to be a short post. It’s hard to believe it’s already the 29th. I have 2 days (well, I’m giving myself 2 days) to finish up my dissertation and get cracking.
Peace & Love, always!
Blogmas: Day 28, Chronic Illnesses
When you look at people with chronic illness(es)/disabilities, what do you expect to see? The more I look around, the more I realize that people only think you have issues if you are wheelchair-bound or have some sort of aid. That’s not necessarily the case. My fiancé has several issues, and should be in a wheelchair, but isn’t. He needs very invasive surgeries (yes, plural). Looking at him though, you’d never know. People judge him constantly. Perhaps it’s how society has been conditioned to view those with disabilities/illnesses that are “invisible”.

Christmas was couple of days ago, and since we spent most of yesterday cleaning up, I figured it would be a good time to start paring down. I have three piles: keep, donate, and toss. In case you’re curious, there is no set number. I have played the #MinsGame, which The Minimalists suggested to me on Twitter. I suppose now it’s about figuring out how to maintain order, since I could easily “play” the game again. That being said, I am so grateful for everything I have, and understand what a privilege it is to be able to have anything to my name. Now we’re going off in a different direction…

So, it is the day after Christmas. Just like that, we’re pretty much back to the same ol’ routine. There is a lot to get done before we leave for CES. I need to finish the final chapters for my dissertation, paint the room we are remodeling, get at least two cat shelves finished and up, pack, and clean up. I also need to get the room organized and furnished, so when we get back, there is nothing else to worry about with the remodel. I do know that the floor (most likely) won’t be done for awhile, which is okay. Maybe an area rug will work in the meantime. There are other things I’d like to get done as well, like going through the things I have stored in the garage. My goal is to pare down my things so that they don’t occupy multiple spaces. Since it rained, I’m waiting for everything dry out a bit before I attempt that.

arch can still be seen during the holidays.
And no, the title isn’t a typo 😉. Our holiday mostly revolves around family, WoW, and our cats. This year is a bit different since Grandma is visiting other family. We normally head over to her house for Christmas dinner. This year there will be around 10 (maybe less) for dinner, which is okay by us. As far as gifts go, my fiancé already knew what he was getting, so there’s no surprise there. I, on the other hand, have no clue. We got our fur babies some of their favorite food and treats, which they’ll love.

Lately, I’ve been playing holiday-themed movies while I work. I still have yet to watch A Christmas Story, Friday After Next, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (the Boris Karloff version). We also used to watch that Rudolph block of stop motion films, but haven’t in awhile. It seems like yesterday we were getting ready for BlizzCon, and now we’re about to usher in a new year. This year, Christmas is going to be a little bit different since my grandma will be out of town. Usually we have Christmas at her place. I wanted to do a WoW-themed dinner in celebration of Winter Veil, but unfortunately that probably won’t happen now. Well, maybe we’ll put together something for New Year’s Day.

Most people make resolutions for the new year. I tried that, and it just doesn’t work for me. Every day you wake up can be a new beginning. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, trying new foods, or setting new goals, we can treat each day with the same gusto. Instead of waiting for the new year to come around, I’m going to try to get out of my comfort zone in some way to see how it changes my perspective on life. Tomorrow is not a guarantee, so it’s best to make the most of your time on this planet.
Continue ReadingBlogmas: Day 22, Three More Sleeps

It’s three more sleeps ’til Christmas! It’s kind of sad. For many, so much thought and time goes into decorating and preparing for the holidays, just for it all to abruptly end. Maybe it’s because Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are all back-to-back. Sometimes I wish that the holidays were more spread out. It’s a bit like being on the freeway in a “hurry up and wait” scenario: Loads of work, and then BAM, it’s all over. The decorations come down and the festive spirit of the holidays is retired right along with the decor. This year, I haven’t really felt that “holiday spirit” at all. Maybe it’s partially because of how busy we’ve been, and partly because that spirit doesn’t seem as prevalent when we’re out and about. I miss the days where store clerks would say, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”, when you left. Maybe I’m just an old soul…

Holy cow, it’s four days until Christmas! Where has this month gone?! Actually, where has the year gone? It seems like just yesterday we were packing for CES, and it’s just about that time again. Instead of breaking this down into days (which would probably result in a book-long post), I’ve decided to just write. Not like I haven’t done that before. Ideally, I wanted one post per day, and for each one to have its own theme. As you can see, that didn’t happen. What I should have done was written the posts in advance…well, there’s always next time.
