Plastic-Free July 2024 & Blueland x Darphynia

As Plastic-Free July reaches its end, we are taking time to reflect on how much packaging and waste is placed on the consumer. Instead of manufacturers and corporations being responsible for how they package and produce their own goods, the consumer is left with the choices they are presented with. It is nearly impossible, depending on your area and situation, to find household products that are free from any sort of plastic. For some, the ability to choose more sustainable options is present, but it can come at a cost…and it’s not just monetary. One brand that has been providing planet-friendly and relatively plastic-free products since the beginning is Blueland. And, if you want to give them a try, you can purchase refill packs that won’t break the bank (plus, their packs are recyclable/compostable).

First Look at FinalWipe (save your money)

Something came in the mail today! I was really excited. It was the FinalWipe bundle. I had seen this on Kickstarter (was not a backer, though), and was intrigued. I loved the idea of having antimicrobial, bamboo wipes. I noticed that they were organic cotton, instead of the silver ion-infused bamboo, and the container was nice with a bamboo lid. Figured that’s all that had changed. Boy, was I wrong. Now, people have been using rags and cleaning solutions for awhile, prior to the toilet paper we all know and (most of us) use. So what makes this different?

🌞 Some of My Favorite Things 🌙

Finding the right products for your skin can be a tedious task. Since my skin reacts when the weather changes, I’ve been trying out some products to help combat my skin’s issues. As much as I don’t like the waste, there was no other way to test out skincare. I was able to post up the items that didn’t work in the Buy Nothing group so they didn’t get tossed. The following are some of the products that I love.

FabFitFun: Fall 2020

With the shift in focus to all things eco-friendly, I’m noticing that more and more companies are including eco-friendly products in their subscription boxes…well, seemingly eco-friendly. I received the fall FabFitFun (FFF) box about a week ago, and have been a subscriber pretty much since FFF began. As with other subscription boxes, the quality has begun a downward spiral.

I have to say that, of the recent seasons, this box is probably my least favorite. Typically, I like at least 90% of what the box contains. That’s not the case this time. Even though the box is valued at $463.95, of the 10 products that were in this summer edition, I liked about half. I chose the mandala towel, resistance bands, nesting bowls, and the mystery item (it ended up being a face cleansing oil). I also added on the face masks.

The Tiny Tower

Since having a spinal fusion I have needed to use a laptop stand to keep from constantly looking down.  For years I took one with me, the folding table type, everywhere I went.  I still use it, but now it stays put in the house.  When I would travel, the biggest issue was with its size.  I always had to be mindful of where I sat.  During conferences I would have to make sure using it would not get in anyone’s way.  Because the legs angle out, it takes up far more room than it should.  That being said, I loved that the computer would be at the perfect height and that it was relatively portable.  Yes, it was bulky, but it did the job.  Ultimately, I needed one that was more travel-friendly and space-saving.
