As the month draws to a close, I can’t help but think about how fast the year is going. It seems like only yesterday we were gearing up for summer weather. Okay, that hasn’t changed (the weather is predicted to be in the 80s-90s for the next week), but the seasons have. Summer has transitioned to autumn paving the way for chilly nights and cozy fires.
I love fall, and October is a special month for us. It’s the month we got engaged and (coincidentally) the month where he first asked to be a couple. Okay, enough with the mushy stuff. October also happens to be home to one of my favorite holidays: Halloween and its history. Regarding the holiday as we know it today, I love it all– decor, themed food & drinks, costumes…And it wouldn’t be complete without watching Disney’s Halloween Treat. Even though we won’t be going out, it’s still fun to decorate.
When I think of October I think of leaves changing color and spending cool nights around a fire, making s’mores and sipping tea. Perhaps it’s the reprieve from the heat, but I love richer comfort foods like Nigella’s indulgent mashed potatoes, Japanese cream stew, and my pumpkin cheesecake (I’ll post the recipe in a separate post) when it’s cold. Not that I can’t eat them year-round. My body just typically craves lighter meals, versus anything heavy, when it’s hot.
Do you have a favorite season? If you do go out this Halloween, be safe!
Peace & Love, always 🎃
