Plastic-Free July: Day 11, All-Over Body Care 🦷🧼

Some solid alternatives.

Going plastic-free is challenging enough, especially with the current pandemic. Stores here are once again running out of products, and many people are on a tight budget. I love finding plastic-free options, but am also aware that they tend to cost quite a bit more. That shampoo bar is going to cost quite a bit more than the largest plastic bottle of shampoo at Target. Please know that I am aware that these suggestions may not fit everyone’s budget, hair type, skin type, etc. If there are cheaper alternatives, let me know in the comments.

Ethique’s shampoo bars and face scrubs are my favorite solid options. They are 100% plastic-free, including their in-shower containers! Their products come in compostable packaging, are free of palm oil and vegan. My personal favorite are the Gingersnap Face Scrub and Heali Kiwi Shampoo Bar. The scrub ovals can be cut, broken, for multiple uses. Their shampoo bars last me about 3 months, with daily use. If you’re not sure what to try, I suggest the samplers. Pick from hair, face, body, or variety sampler packs.

Another brand that is known for their solid, package-free options is LUSH. I have tried just about everything from soap to haircare. There are things I like and things I don’t. You can have a plastic-free bath with their bubble bars and bath bombs (Sex Bomb is my personal favorite), and cleanse & condition your hair with Avocado Co-Wash. As far as oral care is concerned, I like the Limelight Toothy Tabs. LUSH does use a lot of synthetic fragrances and colors, but the things that have worked for me have been amazing regardless. Here are their plastic-free options.

I have mentioned Bite Toothpaste Bits in the past, and love them more than any other solid toothpaste I have tried. That being said, if you take very hot showers, it will affect the tablets. You will, more likely than not, notice a soapy taste, so try not to take steaming showers 😉. I love this company, and am so excited to see Lindsay’s dream take off!

Rinse has some nice bar soaps, even though the fragrances are not all-natural. I also like Basin‘s haircare, although I haven’t found a solid conditioner that works well. Most solid conditioners just don’t condition enough. Yes, I could grate them into hot water to make more of a paste or liquid, and it could help, but I haven’t tried that yet.

I am allergic to bandages because of the adhesive, so I found these plastic-free bandages for sensitive skin. PATCH bandages are a little bit more expensive, but they work well with my skin. Normally I get large welts, but not with these. The adhesive they use is also very sticky, so they don’t come off easily.

I haven’t used HiBAR, but I’ve heard great things about their products. hello just released plastic-free tooth tablets, which I have yet to try, but definitely want to. Do you have any plastic-free favorites? Let me know in the comments.

Peace & Love, always!
