Catching Glimr *NEW Battle Pet*

How cute is Glimr?!

There is a new battle pet for all of you collectors out there: Glimr. Glimr is reminiscent of the new Funko Pop that you can check out here. When the announcement was released that a new battle pet was found, one of my guildies and I went to Northrend to start the quest chain. Before you get started, this week is Darkmoon Faire, so head over to get the buff. You won’t need it, but it doesn’t hurt to have it. You will also want some gold because you will fatigue and die…unless you’re lucky and don’t. I died twice. You may also want a water mount since the majority of the quests will have you, not only fatigue, but place you deep in the icy waters of Northrend. Another item that is optional, but can come in handy, is having an extra under water breathing elixir. You are given three Elixir of Water Breathing after exchanging a scale with King Mrgl-Mrgl. If you have the Underlight Angler with Underlight Blessing, you can equip to be able to breathe under water. This only comes in handy for non-combat travel.

  1. ! Glimmerfin Scale

Head to the Glimmerfin Scout, who is on top of an ice berg, on the coast of Grizzly Hills (18.4, 88.2) south of Venture Bay. If he isn’t there just give it a minute. It can take a few minutes before it respawns. When we went the iceberg was covered in toons, and were able to get the scale, which you take for the quest, on the second respawn.

2. ! Glimmerfin Welcome

Darphynia, having a chat with
King Mrgl-Mrgl

Mount up and fly (or take a flight path) across to Borean Tundra. There, you will deliver the scale to King Mrgl-Mrgl by Winterfin Retreat. In exchange for the scale he will discuss that it comes from a murloc tribe not seen in Northrend, and you must welcome them in. To welcome them, kill and gather meat (x10) from the crabs in the surrounding water where you found the Glimmerfin Scout, south of Venture Bay. After you have the meat, head on into the wrecked ship where Glimmergut is located, in the same water as the crabs.

3. ! A Big Horkin’ Task

Head over to another iceberg and slay Horker to obtain the Pile of Blubberfat. If he has recently been slain, just wait a minute. He’ll respawn quite fast. Grab your blubber and head back to the shipwreck. Swim back to Glimmergut.

4. ! Seer of the Waves

Glimmergut will tell you to hand the blubber off to the Glimmerfin Oracle. Make your way down to the bottom of the wreckage, where the Glimmerfin Oracle is, to turn in the quest. The Glimmerfin Oracle will then send you to retrieve a giant pearl.

5. ! Pearl in the Deeps

This quest will send you out of the ship and into an area that will trigger fatigue. You will see a giant elite snake named Gem-Eyes. You could kill it, but it is easily avoidable. Go down, grab the pearl, and swim, swim, swim! You may be fatigued long enough to die, so don’t be surprised. Head on back to the Glimmerfin Oracle and hand over the giant pearl.

6. ! Trainer’s Test

Trainer Grrglin, who looks just like the other Glimmerfins, is hanging out on an iceberg with his three pets (two aquatic, one critter), will be waiting for you. Grab three level 25 pets, I used a tonk from DMF, a Moonkin Hatchling, and an Electrified Razortooth, and fight! After defeating Trainer Grrglin, head back to the Glimmerfin Oracle. Upon turn-in, you will be shown an egg, which needs to be wrapped in order for it to hatch.

7. ! Wrap it Up

Swim out of the boat wreckage on the opposite side that you swam to obtain the giant pearl. You will see electrified algae, and will want to avoid it. This is another fatigue area, so make sure you watch the bar. There are three different types of stalks that you need to grab from the floor: Bulbous, Warm, and Young. Swim between the electrified algae otherwise you’ll be in for a painful shock! Head on back to the Glimmerfin Oracle to turn them in. The seaweed, as with the pearl, will be highlighted. They’re not in the screenshots because I had already completed the questline.

8. ! Guardian of the Smallest

Your final task is to slay Great Mua’kin that can be found just outside some nearby wreckage. He’s not difficult to solo, but if your breath is running out, you will want to be there with multiple players. Once slain, head back to the Glimmerfin Oracle.

9. Get your Glimr! Mrrrgglglglgl!

After defeating Great Mua’kin, the Glimmerfin Oracle will hand you Glimr’s Cracked Egg. Swim up to the surface, click the egg in your bag, and Glimr is all yours.

I think we finished this chain in about two hours. It is a lot of travel, mostly in the same area, but even with faster swimming options, it takes time. We also died from fatigue a couple of times, and the graveyard is up on land. This adorable battle pet was completely worth the time spent in the icy depths of Northrend’s waters. Have you obtained Glimr yet? If you have any questions on your journey, let me know. Wowhead also has a great guide, here.

Peace & Love, always!
